Who are we?
Vinterior is the place where the world can buy and sell vintage furniture.
In less than three years, the Vinterior Marketplace has grown into a community of over 1,800 independent furniture dealers worldwide. We work only with selected professional sellers to ensure that our customers can find products that match the values that matter to us: character, a passion for craftsmanship and an obsession for delivering exceptional customer service.
The global furniture market is a $700 billion industry, with Europe alone spending over $313 billion in furniture retail last year. With the backing of top tier investors, we are on a mission to put Vinterior pieces in 1 million places within three years and create a world where everyone can work, live and play in a remarkable space.
About the Product team:
We’re currently a team of seven, comprising of a UX Designer, four engineers, a Head of Engineering and a Head of Product.
As a team, we encourage (but don't force) pairing. We love to experiment and are currently doing weekly sprints with no formal ticket estimations.
We like to keep our tickets small and deploy early and often (we do multiple deploys every day).
We’re customer obsessed. We’re constantly asking ourselves if what we’re working on is solving a genuine problem. To build empathy, the Product team regularly run formal and informal user testing, user interviews, and a weekly Cinema Club dedicated to watching Hotjar (recording of users on our website) videos (and eating popcorn).
Problems we’re solving…
With big ambitions come big problems. Here are some of the biggest challenges we face…
- Scaling our product pipeline
We list over 500 new products a day and aim to grow our number of listings over 1 million. We will need admin tools that can quickly and accurately list products using the expanse of historical data we’ve collected (machine learning).
- Building a data pipeline
We want to drive the entire business decision making and power machine learning based features across all areas of the business from inventory creation to your own personalised interior design assistant.
- Building a highly connected network of furniture delivery experts
We move delicate, heavy and non-standardized products around the World. Our customers demand timely communication about the process and returns should be equally as painless. How do we make the experience of getting a sofa delivered as seamless as purchasing a book on Amazon Prime?
- Help our sellers to grow
Our sellers range from single person businesses to bigger and better resourced organisations. Our aim is to get products in front of the right audience at the right time whilst maximising the business opportunity. Would a dynamic bidding platform solve this problem?
- Digitalizing the furniture buying experience
We want to recreate the real-life experience of buying furniture. We want to do this by giving consumers the opportunity to “touch” the products they’re interested in, visualise the item in their own homes (augmented reality) and to ask questions and interact with the sellers (chatbots).
What does our Stack look like?
Our current setup is a Rails application hosted on Heroku. We’ve rolled our own e-commerce system and our seller tools are within that same system too. Our frontend uses React to power aspects of the customer experience..
We’re looking for people with:
* Collaborates well, loves learning
* Self-taught, coding bootcamp or CS degree, we don’t care.
Bonus points if you have any of the following:
* Experience with Ruby on Rails
* Experience with ReactJS
* 2 or more years professional development experience
* Worked in a startup
* Internationalisation experience
* TDD experience
* Like to pair (but we won’t force you to!)
* Working within mixed (onsite and remote) teams
We are ambitious, hard-working, and dedicated to our mission. We know that building a global market leader will be hard, and we are excited about the challenges that we will encounter on the way. We do not give up.
We voice our opinions whatever our title or tenure. We speak openly and challenge each other directly in the pursuit of self-growth and development. We value impact over ‘looking good’.
We hold ourselves to high standards, especially when it comes to offering the best service and product to our customers.
We are curious and insatiable learners. We experiment, share our failures openly and celebrate our successes with pride. We move fast, fail fast, learn fast.
We push ourselves to smash expectations and deliver 10x results, individually and collectively. We do not seek perfection. We seek out the remarkable.
We are excited to be part of a fast-moving business. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, like the thrill of constant change, can cope with the ups and downs that come with the startup journey and value radically candid feedback, join us on this exciting adventure.
What to expect when you apply:
* You can expect to hear back from us within hours/days.
* We’ll organise a quick phone call to talk you through the role and learn a bit more about you. This will likely be either with our CEO, COO, Head of Product, or Head of Engineering.
* We’ll aim to get you onsite/on video conference as soon as possible to see the office, do an interview with our Head of Engineering and one of the team, an interview with CEO/COO and do some pairing (working together to solve a problem). There will be no whiteboarding or technical grilling.
* If all goes well we will make an offer to you as soon as possible. When we see the right person we want to hire them.
We’re lucky enough to be based in the heart of London in a vintage-inspired office above the All Saints shop near Spitalfields Market, Shoreditch.
We are open to hiring remote candidates and have fully remote employees.
Onsite employees tend to work from home one day a week, however we aim to be as flexible as possible with this to fit people's schedules.
Our closest tubes are:
Aldgate East - 5-minute walk (District, Hammersmith and City)
Shoreditch High Street - 5-minute walk (Overground)
Liverpool Street - 5-minute walk (Overground, Central, Circle, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan)
We’re a short walk away from many bars and restaurants and we have regular team lunches and (non-mandatory) after work drinks.
